About this service

Support shaped around the individual

Waking night support is for people who require an awake care or support worker throughout the night. The worker remains alert and available to provide agreed assistance, monitoring and reassurance.

This service may be helpful for

  • People who regularly need help during the night
  • Adults at increased risk of falls or night-time disorientation
  • People who require planned repositioning or continence support
  • Individuals whose night-time needs cannot safely be met by a sleeping-in arrangement
  • Families who need reliable overnight reassurance

We can help with

  • Personal care and toileting where agreed
  • Support with safe mobility
  • Medication support where included in the agreed plan
  • Hydration and comfort
  • Reassurance during periods of anxiety or disorientation
  • Planned checks and observations
  • Recording and reporting relevant night-time events
  • Responding to emergencies in line with the support plan and escalation procedures

How we work

Night-time support is based on a detailed assessment of need and risk. We agree what assistance is expected, how often it may be required and what should happen if the person’s condition or needs change.

Before support begins, we discuss the person’s needs, strengths, preferences, communication style, routines, risks and desired outcomes. The agreed support plan is reviewed so that care remains appropriate and responsive.
