About this service

Support shaped around the individual

Respite care provides planned, temporary support when a family member or unpaid carer needs time to rest, attend appointments, manage other responsibilities or take a break.

This service may be helpful for

  • Families providing regular unpaid care
  • Carers needing planned time away
  • People whose usual care arrangement is temporarily unavailable
  • Adults who benefit from familiar routines while their carer rests
  • Families considering longer-term support and wanting a gradual introduction

We can help with

  • Personal care where agreed
  • Meals and hydration
  • Medication prompts or agreed support
  • Companionship and supervision
  • Daily routines and meaningful activities
  • Community access and appointments
  • Overnight support where arranged
  • Updates to the family or representative in line with consent and the care plan

How we work

Respite support can be arranged for agreed visits, longer daytime periods, overnight care or another planned period, subject to assessment and availability. We aim to maintain the person’s usual routines and reduce disruption.

Before support begins, we discuss the person’s needs, strengths, preferences, communication style, routines, risks and desired outcomes. The agreed support plan is reviewed so that care remains appropriate and responsive.
